The Manhattan Wine Auction Wine Advisory Board

The Wine Advisory Board was started in 1998 and created a forum where individuals could meet on a bi-monthly basis and share their interest in wine while supporting the annual Manhattan Wine Auction. The Manhattan Wine Auction is a key fundraiser for the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation, a non-profit organization providing grants to the public schools of Manhattan Beach.

Over 98% of the wine donations come from members of the Wine Advisory Board (WAB). This year, that represents over $125,000 in donated wine. Individually, WAB members donate from $500 to over $21,000 in wine, depending on their comfort level. Some members make cash donations in order to have the needed wine purchased for the event. The WAB is also crucial in discussing the event, creating the auction lots and making recommendations to the event Chairs. They are a major influence on the event.

The dinner meetings have a selected wine theme and are held at local restaurants and venues that support the Wine Auction. People are given the option of bringing wine or paying extra to have wine purchased for the meeting. All attendees are encouraged to bring extra bottles of other wines to donate for the event’s silent auction. The meetings are typically held at 7pm on the third Thursday of every other month. The cost of each dinner is $60 if you bring wine and $120 if you don’t. The format of the meetings start with socializing and wine tasting, then Wine Auction business and donations items are discussed, followed by a discussion on the wines.

The Wine Advisory Board is an excellent opportunity to enjoy great wines, meet good people, and support our children, schools and community. If you are interested in joining the Wine Advisory Board please contact either Adam Goldston
